Pitch Review

What: Pitch (1-page) Review

When: After writer has crafted a pitch to a gatekeeper:

  • Magazine editor

  • Podcast host

  • Media outlet

  • Event organizer

  • Literary agent

  • Book publisher

Who: Nonfiction writers who are seeking to share their message with audiencesr

Why: To ensure that your pitch is a short, sharp, irresistible pitch that delivers clarity, credibility, and a hook—fast.

Every line of your pitch should earn its keep: Does this make them want to read more?

When you’re the author of the pitch, you may be too close to answer that question. (#WhyWeLoveEditors)

So I review your pitch—up to 500 words, but hoping you’ll land it at 250-400 if you can!—and let you know what is strong and what can be improved, offering practical strategies to execute suggested changes.

You'll receive:

1. Notes

You'll receive a brief document of notes to give you an overview of what I’m noticing in the pitch.

2. Pitch With Edits

The working pitch you receive back will include suggestions, at specific points, to strengthen the pitch, both as tracked changes and offering suggestions as margin notes.

3. Two Passes!

For this service only, I offer two separate passes. What that means is that when you review my feedback, and implement changes, I’ll review it a second time to make sure that your pitch is doing its job. (Each of us has 7 days to make the changes and return the pitch to the other.)

The writer who will benefit from this service is preparing a book proposal to submit to a literary agent or a publishing house.
